Credit Suisse (Switzerland) Ltd. (CS), with headquarters in Zurich, was founded by Alfred Escher in 1856 as Schweizerische Kreditanstalt.
Today, Credit Suisse is the second-largest Swiss bank, has assets under management of over CHF 1'251 billion (as of September 30, 2010) and about 50'500 employees.
Credit Suisse Group offers private banking, investment banking and asset management services. The bank acquired The First Boston Corporation in 1988 and merged with the Winterthur insurance company in 1997; the latter was sold to AXA in 2006.
